At what expense any valuable work is performed!
At the expense of a life!
If you do one thing well,
what else are you good for in the meanwhile?
( Thoreau, Journal, 1852 )
Discipline means choices.
Every time you say yes to a goal or objective,
you say no to many more.
( Sybil Stanton )
Decide what you want, decide what you are willing
to exchange for it, establish your priorities,
and go to work!
( H. Lamar Hunt )
The best prize life offers is the chance to
work hard at work worth doing.
( Theodore Roosevelt )
Only one who devotes himself to a cause with
his whole strength and soul can be a true master.
For this reason mastery demands all of a person.
( Albert Einstein )
Dream big dreams.
Define them and ponder long enough.
Let wisdom flourish in your mind
and let love blossom in your heart,
so that you will not doubt, overthink,
and hesitate when action is required.
Create infrastructure to bring them through.
When your dream is bigger than you are,
you only have two choices: give up or get help.
( John C. Maxwell )
分階段地去進行,因為從來都沒有星星是一蹴即就的;
Work on one thing at a time until finished.
( Henry Miller )
If you have built castles in the air,
your work need not be lost;
There is where they should be.
Now put foundations under them.
( Henry David Thoreau )
Don’t talk about giftedness, inborn talents!
One can name all kinds of great men
who were not very gifted.
They acquired greatness, became ‘geniuses’
(as we put it) through qualities about whose lack
no man aware of them likes to speak:
all of them had that diligent seriousness
of a craftsman,
learning first to construct the parts properly
before daring to make a great whole.
They allowed themselves time for it,
because they took more pleasure in
making the little, secondary things well
than in the effect of a dazzling whole .
( Friedrich Nietzsche )
Don’t be afraid to take a big step
if one is indicated;
you can’t cross a chasm in two small jumps.
( David Lloyd George )
