如果我們仔細思考一下，
就發現其實生命中很多時間都不是屬於自己的。
大部份人的工作，往往只是謀生，
所以工作的時間不能夠算是完全屬於自己，
只有真正放假的時間，才算是屬於自己的時間。
Time is life. It is irreversible and irreplaceble.
To waste your time is to waste your life,
but to master your time is to master your life
and make the most of it.

至於那些屬於自己的時間應該如何運用，是個人的權利；
而所謂有質素的生命，亦當然因人而異。
至於甚麼是娛樂，當然是因性格而異，
因價值觀而異，因供應而異，因經濟條件而異，
甚至會因來往朋友的喜好而異。
我們沒有道理替他人作出價值的判斷。
在象牙塔裡的人更加不應對販夫走卒說三道四。

我們明白，讓「身體」body 和「我」ego 主持大局的人，
他們的選擇自然和讓「心靈」soul 主持大局的人並不相同。
所以 Oscar Wilde 才會這樣說：
To live is the rarest thing in the world.
Most people exist, that is all.

一般而言，在危機或災難之後仍然活著，稱為 survive，
沒有任何危機，依然活著，稱為 exist / live，
至於回歸心靈，懂得思考，懂得如何去活的人，
可以稱為 humanly alive。
讓「心靈」soul 主持大局的人會這樣問自己：
這份工作是否有樂趣？
能夠給我帶來多少生命的意義？
現在的工作是否只不過是爬著一條由生存，到溫飽，
到享受，再到退休的梯階？
這個問題還需要我們自己個別去評估。
Would I ever regret spending so much of my life
on the treadmill of a work existence？
由於社會、家庭、長輩、同儕的影響，
或者由於年青時發生的事情所影響，
有一些人很年青時就已經有明確的生命目標，
但如果這個目標並非心靈的摯愛，就難免有被困的感覺。
因為人許多時會從事一些收入可觀，別人認為有成就，
而自己內心卻隱約地覺得沒有甚麼意義的工作，
純粹只是臣服於生活，等於虛耗生命、蹉跎歲月，
將自己變成「行屍走肉」。
我有工作 work, job or occupation，
我有職業 profession or career，
但我沒有使命 mission, vocation or labour of love。
從哲學家的角度來看，
「工作、職業、使命」是「相近但不相同」的概念
related but distinct concepts，
所以必須仔細分析、分辨和定義，並且當用家含糊其詞時，
詢問他 What exactly do you mean？
Abstract words, if carelessly defined,
can mean different things to different people.
「一個人一生裡做的事情，對人類永遠有功勞，永遠謀利於大家，
這個才叫事業，如大禹治水。其他的上到皇帝，下到乞丐，
都不是事業，那是職業。」 (南懷瑾)
讓「心靈」soul 主持大局的人會這樣想：
屬於我自己的時間，才是我的生命。
活得長久，並不表示活得愉快，
活得愉快，並不表示活得有意義。
活得愉快或者有意義，決定權在自己。
再進一步地去思考：
要活得愉快或者有意義，
思考和行為就必須和生死相繫，
最後就會悟出「要在生活中了生死」。

自由自主是生命的開始。
如果賴以生存的社會並不酬勞個人的興趣和工作，
那麼要能夠自由自主，就得要在適當的時候，
放下名、利、權、面子的羈絆，過自己喜歡的生活。
所以一定要在工作中找到娛樂！
否則工作就不能夠成為生命的一部份。

單憑嘗試和經歷，只能夠得到屬於個人，
往往悲喜交集的 richest experiences，
只有追求愛和智慧，

and vigilant in choosing our readings, teachers and
